Weekend Recap

Thursday the 22nd was our anniversary so while we should have followed the rules of the diet, we chose to go out to eat to celebrate. After all, what's a celebration without food! We went to one of our favorite places, Charlie Palmer. It just so happens that we celebrated our 3rd anniversary at Charlie Palmer as well. We always sit in the bar, usually take advantage of cocktail happy hour and order a combination of food from the bar and regular dining room menus. I had a Vino Fresco to drink (a vodka cocktail with basil, grapes, and lime) which is one of my faves. Not quite as good as the Lavender Gin Fizz, but sadly, they no longer make that. Anyway, we ordered lots of small plates to share for eating. Blue cheese stuffed dates wrapped in bacon, bone marrow, charcuterie plate, probably something else that I can't remember, and then we had a trio of creme brulee and a marscapone cheesecake for dessert. Everything was delicious as always! I felt a little bad about having an extra cheat meal on the diet, but it was our anniversary! Besides, I was down 7 lbs. that morning!

Friday we drove up to Half Moon Bay for my friend, Jen's wedding. We were good all day, we even packed our meals with us for the road, however, we did partake in the rehearsal dinner where they served Paella, not exactly on the plan. It was really tasty, I tried not to eat too much and I didn't drink any alcohol.

Saturday was the wedding day and the official cheat day of the week. I started my morning with a typical breakfast and the addition of a mimosa, I had a Salted Caramel Mocha from Starbucks midday (thanks to Liz for suggesting it) and then didn't really eat again until the reception dinner around 6pm. We had calamari and flatbread as starters, vegetable soup and salad and then I ordered the lasagna. Then we had the wedding cake which was amazing. It was mango tango cheesecake layered with pistachio cake with strawberries and cream. There was also salt water taffy on tables for favors and I may have enjoyed a few of those as well. I also drank a few glasses of wine.

Sunday we drove home. We stopped at a roadside cafe for breakfast. I had coffee and an egg scramble with spinach, onions, garlic and ground beef. No bread, no potatoes, no fruit. Lunch was a pit stop at Trader Joe's in Monterey for some roasted chicken, a spoonful of peanut butter and some carrots. We stopped in SLO for dinner at Firestone Grill and had a steak cobb salad. Thanks to Linds for the recommendation.

Thursday's Workout:
Band Deadlift
3-2-2-1-1-1-1-1
Then, after 5 minutes rest…
“Gran”
15-10-5 Reps for time of:
Clean & Jerk (135/95 lb.)
Supine Pull-ups

My time for "Gran" was 10:25 Rx. I actually did the C&Js at 97#. It felt really heavy. I was having kind of an off day. I felt tired and weak. I gave myself a nice bruise on my chest from catching 30 cleans too low. I really need to work on that. I'm doing "Grace" for Barbells 4 Boobs this Friday which is 30 C&Js for time. I got up to 161# on the band deadlifts. Those were really challenging. It was very difficult to pull the bar off the ground when the band was trying to pull you back down. Again, I was feeling weak and tired so on another day I probably could have gone heavier.

I didn't get a chance to workout over the weekend as we were traveling. I could have, we came prepared, but I didn't make time for it. Back to it today and back to following the rules. Week 3 of 4 on this diet.

Oh, and for those who were wondering, I did NOT wear a sports bra to the wedding. I could have, should have, would have, but I didn't.
